Sticky marks, referring to the marks left behind from the small pieces of wood (known as racking sticks and fillets) that are used to sperate the layers of boards during drying has been an industry problem for many years, not only in Australia but also around the world. The Australian hardwood grading standard AS 2796 does not permit sticker marks in any grade. In more recent years the greater use of water based coatings has accentuated their appearance in floors. At times these marks have not been noticed throughout the grading, installation, sanding or coating processes, but are clearly visible once the floor is in use. Although, we may not be able to address the cause at this time, this forum will enable us to discuss how we, as an industry, should deal with the current situation.
